Abdul ZAINIDI is the only filmmaker from Brunei. He presents us with 5 shorts he made during Covid lockdown. His films deal with dark themes with a quirky, unusual and humorous style.

Nothing No Name is inspired by ‘The Raven’ by Edgar Allen Poe. A writer struggles to finish his piece as something plagues him from reality.

Two hearing impaired girls share a story from Anduki about a fairy in a lake. One girl goes missing and the memory of her is told by this friend.

Endless Dimension, a poetic take on life during covid times where we wander aimlessly like souls in an endless dimension.

Higher King is a comic sketch about Faris, a Bruneian based in London who, stuck in Brunei, looks for a job to give him purpose.

In Kahjap, Faris, who has lived in Shrewsbury and gone back to Brunei, tries to adapt the Bruneian way of life which includes picking up his original kedyaan accent. He looks for his grandfather with his French cousin Cakoi.

Faris is a popular character in Brunei.

DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY

Abdul Zinaidi received a scholarship to attend the Busan Asian Film School where he won the Purin Pictures Best South East Asia pitch grant and Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) IT project for Worm and the Widow. The feature version had a successful run in Brunei and was selected for the Montgomery International Film Festival where it won the Film Excellence Award. It also represented Brunei at the ASEAN Cinema Week in South Korea in March 2021. His next film is a hybrid film called Vanishing Children Triangle.
